Nancy Sutley is Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) and serves as the principal environmental policy adviser to President Obama. CEQ coordinates environmental efforts across Federal agencies, helps develop environmental policy, and oversees Federal agency implementation of the environmental review process. CEQ also coordinates implementation of the President’s Executive order to integrate sustainable technologies and practices t across the Federal Government.

Formerly, Sutley served as Los Angeles’ Deputy Mayor for Energy and Environment. She was on the Board of Directors for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and served on the California State Water Resources Control Board. Sutley also served as Energy Advisor for California Governor Gray Davis, and as Deputy Secretary in the California EPA. During the Clinton Administration, Sutley served as a Senior Policy Advisor to the Regional EPA Administrator in San Francisco and special assistant to the EPA Administrator in Washington, D.C.

Sutley received her Bachelors degree from Cornell University and her Masters in Public Policy from Harvard University.
